What is artificial drying?

Artificial drying involves precisely regulating temperature, humidity, and air circulation in drying cells specially designed for wood. This method makes it possible to quickly reach an optimal humidity level, while guaranteeing a homogeneous reduction in the water contained in the fibers. Unlike drying, which is carried out naturally in the open air or in a shed, artificial drying allows total control of climatic parameters, thus limiting the risks of cracks, deformations or alterations in the wood.

Why opt for artificial drying?

  • Time saver : drying is accelerated, which considerably reduces the time before machining or implementation. In general, woods remain in cells between 4 to 6 weeks, according to species and production objectives.
  • Homogeneity of the humidity level : controlled air circulation allows for an even distribution of heat and humidity. The wood thus reaches a humidity level that is stabilized around 10 to 12%, adapted to manufacturing requirements.
  • Optimal quality : by limiting thermal and hygrometric differences, the risks of cracks, deformations or appearance defects are minimized.
  • Adaptability to species : each drying cycle is adjusted according to the type of wood (oak, beech, ash) and the thickness of the pieces.

Artificial drying at the VUITTON Sawmill

With more than 50 years of experience in hardwood processing, Sawmill VUITTON offers you:

  • Four drying cells : capable of treating approximately 200 m³ of wood, adapting each cycle to the nature of the lot.
  • Proven expertise : our teams precisely adjust the parameters (temperature, humidity, duration) according to the fuel and production objectives.
  • Rigorous flow management : between drying and drying, we ensure a controlled transition to maintain the integrity of the wood.
  • Transparent traceability : each batch is carefully monitored throughout the process, to ensure consistent quality.
