FRANCHE-COMTÉ TIMBER AND BY-PRODUCTS

At Scierie Vuitton, wood processing is based on a commitment to full material utilization. Nothing is considered waste. Sawing naturally generates by-products—sawdust, wood shavings, wood chips, and bark—which we integrate into a local recovery chain.

This approach is based on a simple principle: every tree must be used in its entirety, with respect for natural resources and the local region.

BCFC, a local leader in by-product recovery

To ensure this process, Scierie Vuitton relies on a long-standing partnership with BCFC (Bois et Connexes de Franche-Comté).

Founded in 2004 by regional sawmill operators, BCFC brings together various stakeholders in the timber industry, including Scierie Vuitton as a partner. Its role is to organize the collection and recovery of by-products from sawmills across the Franche-Comté region.

The recovered materials are then directed toward various uses:

  • energy production,
  • biomass heating,
  • wood panel manufacturing,
  • composting and agricultural use.

This model helps structure a complete local supply chain, where every sub-product finds a useful second life.

A concrete and measurable CSR approach

This partnership is fully integrated into Scierie Vuitton’s CSR strategy.

The goal is clear: to achieve total recovery of all by-products resulting from wood processing. Today, 100% of our sawdust, shavings, chips, and bark are collected and reused within local circuits.

This organization significantly reduces material waste and limits the environmental impact of our industrial production.

It also reflects a responsible vision of the timber industry, where economic performance goes hand-in-hand with sustainable resource management.

A focus on short supply chains and local recovery

Our partnership with BCFC is built on a short-supply-chain model. By-products from the Vuitton Sawmill remain in the region, directly fueling local energy and industrial recovery channels.

This proximity ensures better traceability, reduces unnecessary transport, and optimizes the overall environmental footprint of our operations.

A sustainable vision for wood processing

Through BCFC, the Vuitton Sawmill reaffirms its commitment to a more responsible industry that is better aligned with the current challenges facing the timber sector.

Every log processed is utilized in its entirety, with zero material waste, providing a concrete example of what a sustainable approach to wood truly means.

This model is part of a long-term vision: reconciling industrial performance, resource respect, and regional roots, while actively contributing to the development of a local, circular timber industry.
